Need technical help with 2 items

Post by rlstanley » Mon 5 May 2008 17:40

1. How do I use hyperlinks in posted texts? I see you use them, but I can't figure it out.

2. I would like to extend the poll I have to 'ongoing' (no set time limit), rather than the 7 day limit I initially set up. I am afraid to go in and mess with editing the poll because I do not want to lose the results. Help please.

Thanks,

Rita

You can use:

1. [url=http://www.lymeneteurope.org]LymeNet Europe[/url]
2. [url]http://www.lymeneteurope.org[/url]

Note: URLs starting with http:// or www are automatically made into links, without the need to use the [url][/url] tag. This feature is callled "Magic Links", and it will also chunk long URLs!

For detailed instructions on the useage of BBCode (including "Creating Links"), you can click the BBCode link to the righthand of the Post Content text box, when you post a message.

It will link to this page about BBCode: http://www.lymeneteurope.org/forum/faq.php?mode=bbcode

I have changed it for you.

Reason: added that the feature "magic links" will also chunk long URLs.

Thanks Martian.

I'll try and figure out how to do the hyperlinks. It'll take me a bit.

Thanks for extending the poll.

I find it helpful to use the Preview button to see if the link looks like what I intended and also to check that the link actually works and goes to where it should. That can save a lot of 'editing' of what you already posted in order to get the link to work. Then when everything works correctly hit Submit.

The hyperlink is a very nice way to hotlink a reference or citation by using a single number within the text as the link. Keeps from cluttering the narrative. That would be following the format of the first example that Martian gave, using a number in place of "LymeNet Europe". In most modern browsers a mouse-over on the link will show the url at the bottom of the frame. Then you can right-click on the link to save the url to the clipboard for viewing later if you don't want to go to it right then.

I'm not even going to ask. I glazed over at "url url." Is that anything like da da?
