This is very cute, clever. Thanks. I enjoyed seeing this.

A little on the "chessey" side, though...

Edam all up. It's "gouda" for you.

Yeah, large part of the Netherlands below sea level...yikes. :o

Mr. Gore really scared me.

Luckily I am sort of living on a hill that rises above sea level:

Hard to beat east Netherlands, but interestingly, just 7 km away from me, at the location of the air Watchtower in Oudemirdum, it's + 12,7 m N.A.P.

On top of the tower you are about 25 m above N.A.P. Nice view from there.

I read in the link which you gave the tower is privately owned. Can you still use it?

They have a website: http://www.luchtwachttoren.nl/

It says there:
De Luchtwachttoren is op afspraak het gehele jaar te bezichtigen en te beklimmen. In de zomer is de toren van 9.00 uur t/m 19.00 uur opengesteld voor publiek.

What is the purpose of this structure, may I ask?

If I am understanding, (I ran the text through an online translator)...it seems to be some sort of air raid warning facility?

But built after WW II? Do I have this right?

(The translation comes out soemthing like "air approaching ear", or something like that...)???
